It was early on Tuesday morning when my phone beeped with an unexpected blessing. It was a little message from a children’s ministry colleague in Ohio. Kathy and I have never actually met.
‘Hi Glenys’, the message read, ‘our congregation hosts a summer literacy program in July called Camp Read-A-Lot. Each week we give books to the children to take home and keep for their own, mostly donated gently used books. This year we received a donation in memory of a local high school librarian to purchase a special book for each child. I was so excited to be able to purchase Love Letters from God from Church Source and a price that enabled us to purchase 170 copies! … I’m writing to you as I am wondering if you would be willing to share a few words of encouragement with our Camp Read-A-Lot kids…’
Wow! Would I be willing to share a few words of encouragement with the Camp Read-A-Lot kids? You bet! These children, gathered together in a United Methodist church in Ohio, are learning two of the most wonderful things in life: how to read, and how to know Jesus.
So I grabbed my phone, texted my bestie, and two hours later, we were sitting by a little lake in the sunshine, making this video…
As a former Primary school teacher, and an advocate for children’s literacy, it was a true blessing to be part of this wonderful ministry, not to mention the thrill of seeing 170 children lift their Love Letters from God books high in the air!
Read a lot, love a lot, learn about Jesus a lot… amazing, life-changing ministry is happening in our denomination. To God be the glory!

Incredible!
I need to get the kids to read more!
See you tomorrow, xoxox
I know Natalie! Can’t wait to see you! 🙂
It was so lovely to see that Glenys and to hear your voice. You are so enthusiastic and full of love for children everywhere. God bless you in your wonderful ministry.
Thank you Pauline! We just have to keep smiling 🙂
this made my day! I am sure the campers were thrilled to “meet” the author in person! Your heart must burst when you see how many lives you touch with your books…and those little “diamonds” that show up on what might have been just a ho-hum Tuesday…in a snap! Turns into one of those moments when God rewards your heart with these special treasures. Such a good God we have as He constantly surrounds us with His love and goodness…
Isn’t that the truth Carol! And guess what? I may be able to really meet those campers next year! I’m talking with the coordinator about an author visit, and then I can see this wonderful ministry for myself!
